SlashSlash featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators
at Wild Horse Pass Casino in Chandler, AZ.

This was my first time seeing Slash featuring Myles Kennedy & the Conspirators live and so I was excited to watch one of the true guitar heroes walking the stage.  Slash has had a hand in several great bands over the years and so his rock pedigree is unquestionable.

I was a little surprised at how much of the set was built on Slash’s legacy material.  I like a great deal of what he’s done with Myles Kennedy and was hoping to hear more of their current songs.  But I will admit that hearing the old G’n’R songs by the guy who originally played them was a welcome substitution.

The lights went down and the band opened with “You’re a Lie.”  It was a perfect opening and the band sounded tight.  They immediately followed it with a G’n’R classic, “Nightrain.”  There was very little dialog coming from the stage between songs.  Myles Kennedy kept to the business of playing great songs in quick succession.  “Avalon” and the Slash cover, “Back from Cali,” soon followed before dropping into another G’n’R classics, “You Could Be Mine.”

About halfway through the set Myles Kennedy left the stage and bassist Todd Kerns stepped in on vocals for “Doctor Alibi” and a cover of the G’n’R classic “Welcome to the Jungle.”  The rotation served as a great reminder of how many talented musicians were on that stage.  Kerns has a great voice that is very well suited to the pair of songs.

Myles KennedyAfter Kennedy returned to the microphone the band jumped into four Slash/Myles Kennedy tunes before closing out the set with a pair of G’n’R covers and the old Velvet Revolver song, “Slither.”  This was an amazing set and I’m happy that I’ve had the chance to finally catch Slash on stage.  Their North American tour is about over but those of you in India or Eastern Europe will be happy to know that the band will continue touring through November.
