Billy Bob Thornton & the Boxmasters crash the Hard Rock
By Daniel Narvaiz and Lisa Cummins

Billy Bob Thornton and the Boxmasters visited the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas in September playing their own style of music, which they refer to as “Electric Hillbilly” Their witty lyrics and rockabilly beat provided some creative sounds to this evening’s event. There were fans present that knew every song and sang along. Those who didn’t know the words were able to look at a screen located behind the band which displayed the lyrics. The nice part about this little add-on was the lyrics were in sync with Billy’s singing and this kept everyone on tempo with the band.

On both sides of the stage were go-go dancers decked out in 1970s attire, encouraging fans on the floor to join in and do some dancing of their own. During the first half of the show, the band kept it formal by wearing black suits and ties. During the second half of the show, the suits came off and a more relaxed, casual band emerged donning regular t-shirts and jeans. For this segment of the show, drinks were being consumed and fans jumped up on stage for sing-along time.  The go-go dancers also were center stage wearing more modern day dance attire.

For the encore, Billy Bob sat down at the drum set and showed off his instrumental talent. He continued to keep the beat during the next song while the other band members went off on an instrumental rampage with solo after solo and throwing in a harmonica to rock it up a little.
