NAMM 2003
By the DaBelly Staff

January in Southern California could only mean two things-- the Super Bowl in San Diego and the 101st NAMM show in Anaheim.  Lucky for us, they were on separate weekends!   So we sent a full crew to the convention center in Anaheim, California to report on one of the largest music related conventions in the world.  Each year, manufacturers from across the globe unveil their newest products for an eager press and international distributors to peruse.  This year was no disappointment, as a record 1,309 exhibitors filled the convention center with music-related products of all shapes and sizes.

This year's the focus was on music education and children. Like always, there was that special buzz in the air.  This time, it was because NAMM brought out some of music's biggest stars for a special concert that benefited NAMM's music education charities.  It was held on January 17 at the Anaheim Pond and featured Sir Elton John, hosted by "Will & Grace" star Eric McCormack and a wealth of artists, including Vanessa Carlton, Ray Charles, Nikka Costa, Bruce Hornsby, Jewel, Norah Jones, Diana Krall, John Mayer, Michael McDonald, Brian McKnight, Randy Newman, Take 6, Rufus Wainwright and Brian Wilson.

Starting this month, and for the next several months, we will feature both equipment reviews and interviews with some of the artists we met at NAMM. This is an opportunity for you to get an inside look into the America's largest industry-only music showcase.  This month we will be featuring:

* A review of the concert honoring Sir Elton John

* A look at fashion on the NAMM show floor

* NAMM Tech Review, Sageman Trading Company

* NAMM Tech Review, AccuGroove Cabinets

Upcoming: An indepth story on children and music, interviews with Michael Angelo and Bill "Buddha" Dickens and more.
