OverkillOverkill -
The Grinding Wheel

By Dave Schwartz

Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth and the Overkill crew has released their 18th album, "The Grinding Wheel."  Overkill has had an immeasurable impact on thrash metal and metal music in general.  And while the band has often been mentioned in conjunction with expanding "The Big Four" thrash bands (Metallica, Slayer, Anthrax and Megadeth), Blitz has consistently stated in interviews that he's honored that Overkill is mentioned as part of the conversation but that actually expanding The Big Four to five isn't a concerned.

Their latest record, "The Grinding Wheel" is unmistakably Overkill.  It's a mix of punk, hard rock and NWOBHM that creates the trademark Overkill sound.

Blitz attributes Overkill's longevity to their tenacity.  When grunge music made playing thrash metal difficult, Overkill stuck to their roots and kept playing its own kind of music on its own terms.  With the release of the last four records, Overkill has enjoyed a resurgence with a growing fan base and sold out shows.
